What is exfoliation?
Exfoliation is the removal of the dead skin cells sitting on the skin’s surface. Exfoliation leaves the skin smoother and fresher looking and makes it easier for expensive facial products like serums to penetrate the skin’s surface.
However most of the store- bought scrubs might harm your skin and cause it to break out. It’s due to the harmful chemicals which strip away the living cells and nutrients from the skin. So whats best than to create your own scrubs made from organic products. Your skin will thank you for that. Here are 5 recipes which will help you do just that.

  • Simple Sugar Face Scrub
  • 1 tsp organic cane sugar (or granulated sugar)
  • 1 – 2 drops orange, lemon, lavender or melaleuca essential oil (optional)
  • 1 – 2 drops of water

How you do it: Combine all ingredients in a small bowl. Using the tips of your fingers, gently rub scrub into a clean face. Take care to avoid the eyes. Remove by rinsing with cool water, and pat dry with a clean towel. Add a layer of oil as a moisturizer, if necessary.


  • 2 Ingredient Sugar Face Scrub
  • 1 tbsp coconut oil
  • 2 tbsp sugar

How you do it: Combine coconut oil and sugar in a small bowl, and stir to combine.  Rub sugar face scrub into clean facial or neck skin, using gentle circular motions, for 60 seconds.  Rinse dry with warm water.


  • Lemon and Sugar Face Scrub
  • 1/2 fresh lemon
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tbsp organic honey

  • Honey and Oatmeal Facial Scrub 
  • 1/2 cup of uncooked oats
  • 2 tbsp honey
  • 1 tsp nutmeg
  • 15 drops lavender essential oil
  • 15 drops melaleuca essential oil
  • 1 tsp dried lavender (optional)

  • Baking soda and honey facial scrub
  • 1 tbsp baking soda
  • 2 tbsp honey

How you do it: Mix the ingredients together. Raw honey is anti-bacterial, antiviral, and anti-fungal. It kills skin infections, including acne. Honey reduces inflammation and hydrates. Honey can be mixed baking soda here to boost the antioxidant and anti-bacterial benefits.
