As any typical Indian girl, you love your long luscious locks. But often due to poor water conditions, harsh chemicals esp sulphates and over exposure to heat, your hair end up as dry, brittle strands. At this moment, your hair needs a break from all the strong products and extra support from oils. Heres the secret recipe of my homemade oil for long, strong and shiny hair.
But whats the secret?
Coconut oil is the richest natural source of medium chain fatty acids (MCFAs), special types of fatty acid with antibacterial and antimicrobial properties that are very nourishing to the body. It is especially high in the C12 chain of MCFAs known as Lauric Acid. Lauric acid is naturally occurring in breastmilk as well and is supportive of hormone health and cellular health. This beneficial property of coconut oil is also one of the reasons it can help prevent protein loss in hair
Castor oil’s majority of nutritional content is made up of ricinoleic acid, omega-6 and 9 fatty acids, vitamin E, and minerals. It consists of a total of 18 fatty acids. Castor oil is also a humectant, which means it attracts and retains moisture in the hair and skin. Mustard oil stimulates hair growth by increasing blood circulation in the scalp. It contains protein, a major component of hair, and omega-3 fatty acids – both of which nourish your hair and encourage hair growth.
Olive oil has been desired for its natural hair softening benefits, rather than having to use chemically-laden ingredients that are added to cheap hair conditioners. Many people who use olive oil on their hair will notice that it not only becomes softer and more manageable, but that their hair grows in much thicker and denser. Olive oil naturally contains essential nutrients, and monounsaturated fatty acids. These aid in strengthening the hair from the roots and right down to the tips of your hair.
Almond oil has been valued in many ancient cultures for their healing and health properties, including high levels of protein, omega-9 fatty acids, and vitamin E. These properties suggest that almond oil can improve the shine and strength of your hair.
